On October 9, 2026, Chen Li, Party Committee Secretary and Vice President of Southern Asset Management, met in Shenzhen with Rubens Henriques, Chief Executive Officer of Brazil's BTG Pactual Asset Management ("BTG Pactual Asset Management"), and his delegation. The two sides held talks on deepening China-Brazil asset management cooperation and signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of Southern Asset Management Co., Ltd. ("Southern Asset Management") and BTG Pactual Asset Management, respectively. The two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation in areas such as index and ETF products, cross-border research, and sustainable development best practices, working together to provide more diversified asset allocation tools and services to investors in both countries and jointly open up new space for China-Brazil asset management cooperation.
Chen Li stated that Southern Asset Management and BTG Pactual Asset Management each have their own advantages and strong complementarity in areas such as index and ETF products, with broad room for cooperation. Taking this signing as a starting point, the two sides will translate their cooperative consensus into concrete products and business operations, providing more diversified and more convenient asset allocation and diversification investment options for investors in both countries through mutual benefit. This will not only help Chinese investors access the Brazilian and Latin American markets, but also build a bridge for Brazilian investors to understand China and invest in China, achieving two-way empowerment within a higher-level opening-up framework.
As the high-level opening-up of China's capital market advances steadily, the internationalization of the public fund industry continues to accelerate. As one of the first batch of standardized fund management companies approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission, Southern Asset Management is also a pioneer in the capital market's opening-up: in 2007, the company became one of the first fund companies in the industry to obtain Qualified Domestic Institutional Investor (QDII) status; in January 2008, it established its overseas subsidiary Southern East Asset Management Co., Ltd., becoming the first overseas branch established by a domestic fund company. After nearly two decades of development, Southern Asset Management's international business has covered countries and regions including the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia, forming three major segments: overseas asset allocation, overseas fixed income, and active equity. Its subsidiary Southern East Asset Management manages more than 60 ETFs listed in both Hong Kong and Singapore, serving as an important bridge for overseas investors to access Chinese assets. In 2024, Southern East Asset Management partnered with collaborators to launch related ETF products in the Saudi market, becoming an important practice in China-Saudi Arabia capital market connectivity. This strategic cooperation with BTG Pactual Asset Management is a further continuation and deepening of Southern Asset Management's internationalization strategy.
BTG Pactual, founded in 1983 and headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, is one of the largest investment banks in Latin America, with business covering investment banking, wealth management, asset management, sales and trading, and other areas. Its subsidiary BTG Pactual Asset Management is one of the largest independent asset management institutions in Latin America and ranks among the top in Brazil's market in the index and ETF sector. As of June 2026, it had issued and managed more than 30 ETFs, having launched multiple pioneering products including Brazil's first credit bond ETF and first financial note ETF.
China and Brazil are both members of BRICS and important emerging markets globally. Under the framework of their comprehensive strategic partnership, bilateral economic, trade, and financial cooperation enjoys broad prospects. In the future, Southern Asset Management will work together with BTG Pactual Asset Management to fully leverage their respective local advantages and professional capabilities, continuously deepen practical cooperation, support the high-quality development of China-Brazil economic, trade, and investment relations, and strive to create long-term value for investors in both countries.
